Nehemiah 7:64

"These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood."

There was a census being done. Those which had come up out of the captivity, their families and those that were coming in to dwell at the city. Note:that during the days of Solomon they were well over a million men not counting women and chidlren. Now, they are counted less than 50,000. How much death, destruction and waste of life over their sinfulness. And how great shall be our fall, as we continue to provoke the Lord God Almighty. These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy - word study, sought/found; As they would be listing the families tribes, descendants they would make their genealogy tracable to their fathers. The Levites should be able to go back to Levi himself; the children of Judah should be able to follow their family line. Now the reason that they would have to seek for it, is because they lost it. Why search for something? It is lost. 'Seek and ye shall find'. How can you lose your family? They had been through death, captivity, and continued sin. For while they was in Babylon, they were told by the prophet Jeremiah to settle down, for they would be there for 70 years. They were to build homes, and start their families and restore true worship unto the Lord. What did they do of any of these three things? They settled down in Vanity Fair and sinned against the Lord. Within one generation they lost their family heritage. For they mingled with the nations of the world that was there in Babylon. They inner married with the heathen, whom the Lord had said to destroy. They gave their sons and daughters to the sons of hell. They took women into their homes that knew not the Lord. What shall come of this? Within one generation they will be removed from fearing and serving the Lord. Often I will have someone say to me, 'I can win them to the Lord'. They are referring to a lost person and desire to marry them. Usually the lost person, coerces the Christian to fall into sin. And secondly, why are they seeking marriage to an unbeliever; it is all out of lust, not love. For true love, is to Christ first and they would want to please Him first. Such actions only offend and anger Him. And this is just what the children of Israel did. And now returned unto the home land, they seek to be named among the genealogy of Israel. How many shall seek to find their name written in the Lamb's book of life on judgement day? 'but Lord, did we not preach and teach in Your Name'. And what shall He answer? "I never knew you". How many are the thousands and the millions seeking their registry with the church because they was baptized or joined the church, but where is the new birth? 'Unless a man be born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.' But it was not found - how awful the day to be told, all that you thought of yourself is a lie; they could not find it. They wanted it; they needed it; they beleived it, but none of it was there. It could not be proved and therefore cast out.
