II Kings 4:26

"Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well."

The prophet Elisha did not know what was going on. He sent his servant to find out. He was to ask three questions pertaining to the innermost people around her. And to ask, Is it well? word study, well; word study, great questions of the Bible; run now - go forth with haste to find out; it is not a time to miss, but with haste find out quickly. We are prone to walk, when He has commanded to run. 'Run the race that is set before you'. How can you expect to win if you walk? run to the people that are before you to enquire of their well being? enquire of their soul? Is it well? The three people of interest: herself, her husband and the child; Each one carries a special place and their interest is important. It is not a question of how are things in your city or state, but the three most intimate people in her life. Look upon those that are closest to you, are they well? A spouse, a child, a parent, a sibling, and perhaps even a friend that is closer than a brother, someone close and dear these are focus of interest. Yes, we are to pray for lost co-workers, school mates, neighbors and strangers, but don't pass by the closest to you. Many a person can get so busy with lost friends and acquaintances and forget the responsiblity of those near them. Now, the question, Are they well? This woman's son was dead, her husband had sent him into her and seemed to care nothing that his son had died. It is a question of physical care, are they physically well. Many a home this day has sickness, diseases and appointments of tests and doctors, our society is a sick society. The Lord promsied the children of Israel that He could keep the diseases away from them or allow for them multiply. We are at the place of seeing more and more sickness and disease as a result of our sinfulness. Are we emotional well? Abuse, fatique, pain in the soul and heart over past experiences, divorces, neglect, rejection and on it goes to show the scars and pains of peoples emotional instability. We are not well emotionally because of the lack of love, compassion, patitence inside the family, and found on the streets of our cities. Abuse is rampant and growing more evil each day. Are we well spiritually? And we could very easily say that if the first two questions are revealing that we are not well, then do we not know that it is directly related to thsi question. Have we ever seen so many lost people on the earth as this time? And those that are saved, have little faith, little hope and struggle with a carnal world that is always attacking. The church is losing ground and the enemies of our Lord are gaining strength and momentum. Prayer, which is the greatest weapon for our strength and well being, is neglected and rejected. The Bible which is full of promises, and hopes of the absolute truth is not read nor studied by God's own people. It almost seems to me that atheist read the Bible more than Christians so they can prove it wrong. (I pray I am wrong on this) But never have we had a more ignorant church on the Bible. We don't have a sword to fight with, we have a dull kitchen knife. And now the answer, And she answered, It is well. What? her son is dead, her husband isn't anywhere for support or compassion and she is fleeing to find the man of God, how can it be well? Oh, what faith! what steadfastness! what perserverance! what hope! When all else is gone wrong, LOok unto Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith. When all is not well physically, emotionally and spiritually, look unto Jesus, Who can speak the word and all will be made right. The storm came upon the boat and the disciples and Jesus was fast asllep. They toiled, they fought it, the storm threatened to sink them, it was not well. But upon looking unto Jesus for help, He arose and spake a word and all was well. It will never be well going to and fro from person to person, from doctor to doctor, go to the Great Physician. It will never be well taking meds, seeing physcologist and other quacks about abuses, go to Jesus Who can touch the heart and the mind and bring healing within. Adn in a lost and dying world sinking into hell, look unto Jesus Who is high and lifted up and then we can say, It is well.
