"So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king."
David is old and his days are numbered. He has the physical health problems and those that tended to him where seeking for a soulution. They determined to find him a virgin that would tend to him and keep him warm. Their remedy was flesh on flesh to produce the body heat. We are told of the woman here in this verse, Abishag a Shunammite. So they sought . . .and found - word study, 'sought and found' or 'sought and found not'; The whold Gospel is given for the very fact that man is seeking and searching for something. some declare it to be truth, others something else. 'Deep calleth unto deep' and the touch of the Creator exists within each one of us to cause us as His creation to seek for Him. He is truth, yes, but only as love, mercy, power and His other attributes, truth proceeds our of Him. He is all these things, and each part of this describes Him. WE are seeking Him. To the soul that it can be said of, 'Sought and found'; they ahve foudn a great treasure, one that cannot be matched here on thsi earth to anything else. It is the level of searching that makes the difference. Throughout all the coasts of Israel - high and low, it was inclusive search; Far too many are very content to seek in a haphazard manner and content to not find Him. Others seek, but grow weary and frustrated that it does not come sooner, they have not the endurance to the end. Others, labor and perservere, but only to fall short and miss the riches and rewards of knowing Him. 'Few there be that find Him'; those that have sought and foudn. The two are locked together for His glory. Where are you at brethern? How goes your search among the endeavors of this life? Are we content with any phase just mentioned except the very last one, 'sought and found'? then having found Him, do not let Him go. Hold fast, for the world and Satan will seek to separate you and to entice you with other things to replace Him. Remember, He cannot be replaced, He is the ONe and Only for our heart and soul. And having sought and found, brought her to the king - we are presented to Him, King Jesus; Hearing those words, 'Well done, thou good and faithful servant; Enter now into the joys of the Lord'. Let us know what is to come, we are to face Him at the judgment bar. WE are to give an acouunt of our desire and time. What did we invest our energy and time in? WAs it in temporal things or spiritaul things? things of this life, or things to come? Set your affections on things above, not on things of this life'. Labor not for the meat that perishes but for that which is of His hand that satisfies.
