"And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal."
Such is the evil that men do in all the earth. If you keep up with current events, you will hear and read of a constant attack on people throughout the world. Nations fighting for power, fighting for freedom, abuses, war, and the inncocent that die needlessly are a part of our world. Here is the house of David, the children of Judah, that was protected and blessed of the Lord and here is the evil of their hands. For this woman Athaliah, to me, was worse than Jezebel, for she was the daughter of Omri, 'who did evil more than any king before him'. Here is the learned trait of evil and how to practice it. For she hears of her sons death by the hand of Jehu, who was executing judgment on the house of Ahab and she in a fit of rage rises up and slays all the children of the king. What a possesses a woman to do such a thing? Evil; for out of the heart proceedeth wickedness which is contrary to the will of God. And it is the sad fact that when a people have such leaders and examples that the people do corrupt themselves with greater evil. 'As the leaders are, so are the people'; wicked leaders, wicked people; righteous leades, righteous people. Who are we? The church might be the righteous of the Lord but we dwell in an evil land. This woman slew these innocent out of rage and lusts for power and control. And I always muse with the question: Was there no one there to stop her? So, with the evil of our day, is there none fighting against it? curbing the evil of their hands? Who is raging the war to reclaim the land and the people from their evil influence? The danger is when leaders corrupt the people and we go beyond people practicing evil in their own heart to subverting a whole nation. And then when the majority or the greater part of them practice this evil, it leads to the next step: 'they call evil good, and good evil'. This is where we are at, brethern. We have left the land of indvidiaul evil in the hearts of men, fallen headlong into a nation of heathens and now the conscious choice of men is continually toward evil. This is the last step before the judgment of God. The land cannot contain such evil in the midst. One Scirpture declares, 'The land will vomit you out for such evil, wicked and uncleanness'. For this woman, Athaliah slew the royal seed of the king, the next in line for the throne, a whole generation of leaders slain by her hand. And what of our day? In a week's time, in a day's time, whole generations are slain in the practice of evil of abortion. But abortion is not defined as murder, it is newly named and proclaimed a law of the land. I don't care what the law or the courts say, who has the say of decency and morals? God has already spoken on that. But you see, in our land, the evil of aborion is called good, labeled as choice; and those that point to the reality of murder, just as Athaliah did, we are called evil for judging or condemening their unholy deeds. We have arrived beloved into the land of evil. Now is there any hope? Is it all over? Well, let us return to the Word andsee if it was all over for Judah. God still brought to the throne, Hezekiah, and Josiah who led Judah back to God. God is mercifula nd longsuffering with our evil and the evil of the land. He has Joash hiding in the temple from the hands of Athaliah; He preserved Moses int he waters from the hand of Pharaoahs murders of the male babies. God is able to deliver and redeem us. It is our duty to conitnue to speak the truth, proclaim pronouncments against the evil of the land so that they might know this is not the way it is intended to be. Make sure evil is not present in your home, lodged in your heart and mind. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners and purify your hearts, ye double minded and draw nigh unto the Lord and He will draw nigh unto you. The will of the Lord is to redeem and be glorified in all the nations. Pray and labor agains tthe evil of our land and the wickedness in the hands and hearts of those around us. Prevail in prayer for our nation, leaders and the near future of what shall be. Let us be found faithful unto Him, Who loved us and redeemed us.
