II Samuel 9:8

"And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?"

David has searched and found Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, to show him kindness for their friendship. He has rewarded him by taking back his father's lands, which Ziba was taking the gains from, and given the profits to Mephibosheth. In one fell swoop, Mephibosheth woke up one mroning, without much and unknown, to be the sunset being exalted and honored in a way that very few every experience. The humility of Mephibosheth is our learning today. He bowed himself - it was honor being given to David by bowing before him; Whoever you bow to, you bestow honor unto them. the Asian culture practice this better than any I know. And we know the Scripture that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess to the Lord. Honor will be given unto Him Who is worthy to receive all honor, glory and praise. Position does matter, for it is an expression of your heart and soul. The person that refuses to bow the knee is austere, proud and self based rather than giving honor to Someone else. A Christian should practise bowing the knee in prayer time and worship for it is telling the heart to Him that we are not worthy to be in His Presence, but bow in lowliness before Him. What is they servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? - great questions of the Bible; Mephibosheth declared himself the lowest of the low in his reference to a dead dog. Not just a dog, but a dead dog. And he is exalting the kiing for his excellence for looking upon someone so low. Can we not say this with our Lord? Why has the Creator and Sustainer of all this universe, looked down upn me? Why has He regarded my life, my soul and all that is around me? I am not worthy of such attention, such honor? Yet. . .He has looked upon me. What wonder fills our hearts and souls to consider that the King of all has looked upon me! He has blest, He ahs saved, He has endued words to such a dead dog as I. is there not worship to be found upon these truths? Let us exclaim His greatness for He hath done great and marvelous things to such a one as I. Kings of the earth would not lower themselves to look upon the lowliest, but not Christ, such compassion, such Divine love, He imparts to each. It may be that some reading this, will have a problem calling themselves a 'dead dog'. They say, "I am not perfect, but I am not that bad or sinful". You know not then your true state. Paul stated it, "I am what I am, by the grace of God". Remove God's grace and mercy, and we are as evil and sinful as any demon. Only by His Divine hand extended toward us, rescues us out of the miry clay. For a soul not abase themselves shows that they do not understand their true depravity of sinfulness. Born insin, consumed with sin, surrounded by sin; what chance does one have but to die as a dead dog. Left for the maggots and the scourge of the earth, but one that finds Him finds a seat at the king's table as did Mephiboseth. We have, as a child of the king, a seat at the King of Kings and Lord of Lords table.
