II Samuel 10:19

"And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more."

This verse gives us two words for study: Hadarezer saw that they - word study, to see; and, So they Syrains feared to help - word study, help; Both words are instrumental for us here in this ending verse of this chapter. The escalation of battle began with the Ammonites making a diplomacy error. Then the Ammonites called for the Syrians to rescue them, and they were defeated and then the final assualt was that the Syrians called out all the rest of the Syrians and were defeated by David and the chidlren of Israel. This last verse puts DAvid and Israel atop all the nations round about them. It is the alliance of two evil nations and groups of people againt the people of God. It is not much different today, there are numerous groups against the church and we stand solely at the place of God for help. The Syrians might fear to help the Ammonites, but we are in desperate need of the Lord's help. We are powerless and have no strength for the day. Whereas, DAvid prevailed and honor was given unto the Lord, for He fought for them. Let us see and know that God gave David and Israel victory here and He will do the same for us. Saw that they were smitten before Israel - the hosts had been slain; When the enemy can see that they have no power and have lost the battle, they retire from the war. We do not see our enemies retiring from the war. Just the opposite, that they are continuing their assualt upon a weak, fragile church. We must see that we are not resting in the Lord; we arenot obeying the Lord; we are not praying so as to prevail in prayer. Then shall we have victory and shall know tha tour Lord fights for us. They made peace with Israel - a truce was declared in favor of Israel, the victor; It is not our object to make peace with the enemy, but to see them saved and born again. Far to many have become weary with the battle and seek for a peace with the world, with family and friends to avoid conflict and comprimise their faith. Their is an assault on our freedoms and rights for worhsip, declaration and beliefs. Thsoe in other lands are not comprimising but hazarding their lives for the Gospel sake. How awful that we settle for less. Ther was a time within the last 100 years, after the great revivals that Europe and the US was given to the Christain message and governments and groups served the means fo this. They did not openly speak against the Lord nor the ways of the church, for it was the norm. and they served them - they lost and conceded their rights to Israel to rule over them; Now that is not the case, but they rail on christianity and the church. The greatest enemy is Islam and it is growing faster than any other religion at this time. soon it will dominate Europe and then we will see such scenario again of two spiritual forces at war. We are in a great plight, they used to serve us, now we serve them. Our weak faith and lack of desire to seek the Lord has prevailed to give them what God intended for His people. israel is a clear example fo this; for although we read here of David and Israel being victorious, we know that less than 500 years Israel will be taken into cpativity for their ungodly, sinful ways. You cannot affront God and not reap the wrath of His holiness. WE are in danger of such folly as the church unless we confess, repent and seek Him with all that we are. As for the Ammonites, they will continue to be a thorn in Israels side until Babylon conquers everything. They are east of Israel and still, even though, descendants fo Lot, are enemies to Israel. We must understand that we will always be at war until the Lord calls us home, or comes again. Dear child of God, fight a good warfare, be faithful, steadfast, unmoveable and always abiding in Him. Let God be honored and the banner of Christ exalted for He is worthy.
