I Samuel 31:6

"So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together."

We read the words when Samuel spoke to Saul at the witch of Endor's house. All that he loved would be destroyed in one fell swoop. Here we read that even in death, God did not let any of Samuel's words fall to the ground. Oh, the picture here that is told! Death, death, death; is found everywhere to the children of God. And the only hope that is found here is to know that God is working in the midst of this wrath over the children of Israel's and Saul's disobedience and sin. He is raising up David to be king, and the enemies of our Lord will be defeated. But this season is for sorrow and mourning, because the innocent have fallen with Saul. It is never just the individual that pays the price for sin. Saul died - one soul; his three sons - four souls dead; his armourbearer - five souls dead; all his men - thousands dead. And the worst part of this, the name of the Lord was dishonored among the sons of men. It is that we must see the truth that lies before us. It is a truth that very few wish to deal with, very few want to contemplate on. 'It is appointed unto men once to die and then the judgement'; 'And he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.'; 'Some to everlasting life and some to everlasting damnation'; Eternity is coming for the sons of men on the earth. It is a staggering thought that over 40 billion have been estimated that already is in eternity. I can't conceive of it; and no the truth, 'Few there be that find it', the way of the straight and the narrow. But many there be that perish on the wide and broad way. Oh, dearly beloved, see the death of Sau, his family and his host; now see the death of your family, friends and the earthly hosts; they are perishing. It is too much to bear when conceived of such numbers entering into hell for all eternity. Is there no compassion in your soul? DAvid wept at the news of Saul's and Jonathan's death. Some would argue that it was only for Jonathan, but they know not the spirit of David. David respected Saul, and even, may have loved him for the sake of being his father-in-law and he was the Lord's anointed, something which David revered as holy. He was the Lord's anointed and that meant something to DAvid. Is there not a prayer to be offered up? Is there not a call to witness and share the truth of the Gospel message? Is there not a stirring of the need of God's power, lest they all perish into the lake of fire? Let us look upon the dead today all around us and know the fate of them that die without God. How will this sight change you in your appraoch to them and to your God?
