I Samuel 26:17

"And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king."

It is another moment of decision for David. He has Saul's life in his own hand to do with as he sees fit. again, faced with the temptation to kill Saul, he spares him. And he calls unto Abner to make him answer for his folly of letting someone get near the king. And in this dialogue between David and Abner, Saul speaks to him. And Saul knew Daivd's voice - word study, to know; Saul heard David and in the night time he knew who he was. This shows us that Saul knew David well enough to recognize his voice in the darkness. This verse is designed to see the prayer life. When the Lord speaks to us, do we recognize His voice? When we speak does He recognize us? For the only way of familarity of a voice is by hearing it often to remember it and to recognize it. A few individuals might have the ability to remember someones' voice after only one conversation or two. To those that we speak with often, they do not need to introduce themselves to us over the phone, we hear the voice and recall the face of the person we are spekaing to. Is this thy voice , my son Daivd? - great questions of the Bible; Saul asks of David to identify himself to him. All the evil spirit, hate, anger that drove Saul to pursue David is suddenly gone at the voice of David speaking. To ask this question might point to the fact that Saul may not have been certain and was asking for clarity. Or perhaps Saul was ready to speak to David and he interrupted the conversation of Abner and David. The sons of Sciva spoke to the demon to cast it out, but his reply was, 'Who's voice is this?' Christ, I know; Paul, I know; but who are you?' The voice was not recognized. is it true that God's own people, being silent to their heavenly Father for so long, that He would say, 'Who's voice is this?' Have you been often and frequent in your conversations with the Lord? Does He know your voice? And at the end of this question, Saul calls David his son. Here he is in the wilderness seeking to slay his son, do you not think that the full weight of this was settling on him? And he was his son through marriage to his youngest daughter. The relationship and the recognition of the voice shows Saul's remorse of what is happneing. And here is David's reply, It is my voice, my lord, O king -
